    Activity associated with the Women's Movement in India and with the welfare of Indian students ; Member of the Bombay Municipal Corporation from 1923-29 ; one of the leaders of the "Quit India" Movement ; first women President of the Indian National Congress, 1925; Delegate, Indian Round Table Conference in London in 1931 ; went to South Africa and East Africa on a political mission on behalf of the Indian settlers, 1924 ; Member Government of India Deputation to South Africa, 1932 ; Governor of U.P. from 1947-49 ; she was awarded the Gold "Kaiser-e-Hind" Medal for organising flood relief work in Hyderabad.
