    Formed Punjab Scheduled Castes Welfare Association in 1950 and President thereof till 1966.
    Previously actively associated with Bhartiya Jansangh from 1967.
    Served as member of the All India Working Committee Bhartiya Jansangh from 1970 to 1973, served as Secretary, Haryana State Jansangh from 1973 to 1987, was in-charge of All India Wing of the Bhartiya Jansangh.
    Associated with P&T Trade Union in various capacities from 1952 to 1967.
    Served as Organizing Secretary of Haryana Harijan Sangharsh Samiti.
    Served as General Secretary of Bhartiya Depressed League from 1978.
    Served as State President of Bhartiya Janata Party of Haryana.
    Served as All India General Secretary and Vice-President of SC and ST Morcha.

    Position Held

    1967 to 1970 - Elected to Fourth Lok Sabha from Ambala Constituency, Haryana.
    1968 to 1979 - Member,  Committee on Welfare of  Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and General Secretary, Parliamentary Forum for SCs/STs.
    1968 - Formed Parliamentary Forum for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes M.P. which is still Functioning and doing commendable work for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
    1977 to 1979 - Re-elected to Sixth Lok Sabha.
    1977 Onwards- Served as Chairman, Committee on Petitions.
    1977 to 1979 - Served as Chairman, Committee on the Welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
    1978 to 1979 - Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the revision of the List of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
    1987 to 1991 - Elected to Haryana State Legislative Assembly.
    1987 to 1989 - Served as Minister for Revenue, Government of Haryana.
    1989 to 1990 - Served as Leader of Opposition of Haryana Legislative Assembly.
    1996 to 1997 - Re-elected to Eleventh Lok Sabha from Ambala Parliament Constituency as BJP Candidate.
    1996 - Served as Union Minister for Agriculture .
    12/7/1996 to 2/1297 - Elected Unanimously as Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha .

    Special Interests

    Fought Continuously against casteism and work for the upliftment and welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes  labourers and farmers.
