Was Member of Indian legislative Assembly from 1929-1943 ; Constituent assembly, 1948-1949 ; First Round Table Conference, 1929; went to Geneva in 1937, as employer's delegate to the International Labour Conference ; Member for Supply, Viceroy's Executive Council, 1941-43 ; appointed Governor of Bombay in September, 1947 ; Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1949 to 1952.
